X-M: The Nerd and the Toad txt

As the bell ran the students came out of their classes, meeting up with friends or going to their lockers. Sammy came out of her honors geometry class and was trying to push by some of the students in the same class. She wanted to hurry to her locker so she could hang with Kurt and Evan for a moment. She started down the hall but was stopped by something. Someone was calling for her so she turned around. She looked to see who it was and noticed Toad was standing there. She lowered her eyes and sighed. "What do you want Toad?" she said in a annoyed tone. He didn't really say anything and Sammy didn't have time to deal with him so she rolled her eyes and began to walk off. She took a few steps before Toad grabbed her arm. She turned around and pulled her arm out of his hand. "Look I don't feel like playing whatever game it is your playin'. Now why don't you just leave me alone." Sammy said before trying again to walk off. Toad hopped in front of her to stop her for the third time now. Sammy didn't seem to be pleased with him at all. She also was getting worried but tried not to show it. "I want you to help me." he finally came out and said. "Help? With what?" she asked confused. "I…I want you to help me study." Toad rubbed the back of his head a little embarrassed. Sammy was taken back for a moment but then burst out in laughter. "You have got to be kidding me?! How stupid do you think I am?" she said, whipping a tear from her eye and trying to calm back down. "I'm not joking. I really want you to help me. Is it hard to believe I'd want to get my grades up?" Toad asked her. "Yes, it is. You don't even care about school. Half the time I don't even know what you and your loser friends even come here for." she rolled her eyes. "Look Toad, its pretty low of you guys to pick on the weakest of us." "What are you talking about girl?" Toad seemed confused at her comment. "Your trying to find a way to get me by myself so you can trap me. I get it, I'm a good target but I'm smart enough to  see right through your trap so just don't even brother." she said in a know it all tone and putting her hands on her hips. "Its not a trap! I really want you to help me." Toad said before grabbing her by the arms. "The others don't know about it. They'd just make fun of me if I did. So please can't you help me." The look in Toad's eyes made Sammy start to believe him but she couldn't help feel like he was up to something. She sighed and pushed Toad off of her. "Fine but the moment I feel like it's a trap I'll blast you into next week." she giggled and winked at him. "Meet me outside the library after school, ok?" Toad just looked at her with a blink look on his face. Sammy sighed before saying, "Just meet me at my locker. I know you know where that is." She walked off down the hall, leaving Toad just standing there.

After school Sammy walked with Kurt and Evan out of the classroom and into the hall. "Man, could these teachers give more homework." Evan complained. Sammy just giggled at the boy. He looked at her and wrapped a arm around her. "Why don't you give me that brain of yours for the night? I'd probably have it done in no time." he said as he messed with her head and she laughed. Kurt just watched the two play around with a sad look on his face. "Stop before you mess my hair up more." Sammy said wiggling out of his grip and fixing her hair. "I don't know why you girls worry so much about your hair." Kurt joked. Sammy, still messing with her hair, rolled her eyes. "So you guys want to go catch up with Scott before he leaves and get a ride?" Kurt offered. "Actually I've got to go. I've got to go…meet a friend." Sammy said. Kurt and Evan just looked at the girl. She had friends outside of the institute but  it was weird for her to hang out with them after school or without Kurt, Evan or Kitty. "I'll see you guys later at the institute." she said as she waved bye and ran off down the hall.

Toad stood there at her locker, waiting. He waited for a while before he finally saw her. "Sorry about that. So you want to get going?" Sammy asked before walking toward the library. "So what exactly did you want me to help you with?" she asked. Toad didn't say a word. "You know your not making this seem less like a trap." she picked on him. "Why did you decide to come?" he asked out of no where. Sammy was shocked by the question but quickly smiled. "I don't know. I just took a chance, is all." she said before walking into the library.

Outside the school, Kurt and Evan had caught up with Kitty and Scott. "Hey, like, where's Sammy at?" Kitty asked as she looked around for her friend. "Yeah its not like her to be far from you two." Scott added. "She said she was going to meet a friend." Kurt told them. "Did she say where?" Scott questioned. "Nope. Maybe she's got herself a boyfriend." Evan joked.

Now in the library, Sammy finally got Toad to tell her what exactly it was he wanted her help with. She started going through the rows of books and grabbing the ones she wanted. She only wanted one more but it was to high up. She looked around for a stepstool but it wasn't one around. She sighed and put her books on the ground before hopping up and down, trying to reach it. As much as she tried she couldn't seem to get it. She stopped for a moment and noticed Toad was hanging off the shelf with the book she couldn't reach. "Well, what do you know you can use those powers of yours for good." Sammy laughed. Toad blushed a bit but Sammy didn't see it. He hopped down and grabbed the other books she had and they walked off to a table. "Why didn't you just use your powers to get it?" Toad asked her. She looked at him confused before answering him, "The professor teaches us to have self control of our powers and I want to prove that I do. If I go around using them every time I can't reach something, what good would it do to be there?" "You really believe everything he says?" Toad questioned her. "Of course I do! The prof was there when I needed help and he never judges any mutant that comes to our doors. He was even willing to give you a chance before you came and proved you didn't want to be there." Sammy teased him. For the next few days Sammy had met Toad at the school and the city libraries, helping him with all his class work. She kept feeling like Toad was up to something but figured the feeling was coming from fighting with him for so long. Her degust for the boy was slowly going away and she felt more like she could call him a friend.

One day Sammy was hanging out with Kurt and Evan at Kurt's locker before school. "What's been up with you lately, Sam? You've been disappearing after school everyday for the last few days." Evan said lending on the lockers. "Yeah, its as if we've not seen you for almost a week." Kurt looked at her a little worried. "Come on guys, don't act like that. We're like together almost the whole day cept for those few hours. Whats the problem?" Sammy raised a eyebrow. "Well I don't know about me but Kurt, here, is worried you might have a boyfriend." Evan picked on his friend. "I do not! Its just not like you to hang around your other friends without us, Sam." Kurt tried to hind the fact that he was blushing. Sammy just looked at the two with a blank look on her face and before she could say something Evan interrupted her. "What do you want Toad?" he said very dryly. Sammy turned around to look behind her and Kurt looked over at Toad as well. Unlike her friends, Sammy expression was different. She seemed almost happy to see him. "Oh hi there, Tolansky." she said in a cheery voice. The greeting she gave him shocked her two friends. "You left this yesterday." he said as he handed her a notebook. He looked pasted her to see the looks Kurt and Evan was giving him. "I'll see you later today?" he asked trying to ignore the two. "Yup! I'll see you then." she said as she nodded. He smiled and hopped off while she waved goodbye to him. "Sam, please tell me that's not who you've been seeing these last few days?!" Kurt said as he turned her around to look at him. "Yeah, so? He isn't that bad once you get past the smell and get to know him." she giggled a little to herself. "His apart of the brotherhood. He's-" Evan was interrupted by Sammy. "So what if he is?! Kitty talks to Lance all the time. I don't see the difference." The two looked at each other with a worried look on their faces. "Why does everyone think I can't take care of myself. I know the possible dare of being around him but he seemed like he really wanted my help." Sammy said before walking off from the two. "Wait where are you going?" Kurt called out to her. "I'm going to go on to class." she answered him without turning around. "Great now she's mad at us." Evan sighed before looking at Kurt that had a sad expression on his face. "You think we should tell Scott about this?" Kurt shook his head no. "If we tell him he'll just stop her from seeing Toad and then she probably won't talk to us for a month." Evan looked back over to see Sammy turn the corner. "Yeah but dude I don't like the thought of her hanging around him. What if they tried something and we weren't there to help her."

After being mad for a few days, Sammy got over it and the three friends where back to normal. She knew deep down they were only worried about her. The three talked and laughed as they walked outside of the school. They were on their way to meet Scott and Kitty to go back to the institute. "Did you guys hear about that new movie out at the mall. Its suppose to be good. How about we go see it tonight?" Evan suggested. "Oh yeah, that'd be so cool! I've been wanting to see it all week." Sammy said getting excited but soon remembered something. "But I don't have any money. Me and Kitty spent it all last week on some new clothes." "Don't' worry, I can pay for ya." Kurt said wrapping a arm around her and hugging her. "Really?! You're the best, Kurt." she said as she got excited again. They headed off toward the parking lot when a hand grabbed Sammy's shoulder. She turned around to see Toad standing there. Kurt and Evan stop not long after she did and stood behind her glaring at Toad. "Oh hi, Tolansky." she said again in a cheery voice that the boys didn't like. Toad looked behind her to see her friends glaring at him. He tried to ignore it long enough to talk to Sammy. "You…You want to do something tonight?" Sammy was shocked by the invitation at first but then changed to a more sad expression. "I'm sorry, I just made plans but maybe you could come with us. We're going to the mall to see a movie." Sammy smiled at him before turning around to her friends. She gave them a puppy dog look that didn't seem to work. "Sam you can't be serious? He can't come with us." Evan said were he thought Toad couldn't hear him. She fussed back and forth with her two friends till Toad spook up. "Don't worry about." Sammy turned around and stopped Toad. "Maybe we can hang out tomorrow. Out side of the library." she said as he gave him a hopeful smile. He agreed before hopping off. She turned around and walked off with her friends toward Scott.
While Toad talked with Sammy, the other brotherhood members watched. "What is he thinking? Has that been who he's been hanging around lately?" Lance said lending on his car. "He's been going gaga over a X-Men loser!" "Your one to talk. So how's it going with your little Kitty-cat, huh?" Pietro asked in his normal fast speaking way. "Shut up!" Lance said trying to hit the boy but missed. "I think it's time to break up this love feast."
It was now Monday afternoon and Toad and Sammy were at the city library once again. They were sitting at a table where Sammy was talking to Toad about something in a book she had. She noticed she needed another book and got up to get it. She headed off to a near by shelf when she started to feel the ground underneath her feet shack. Books started to fall around her and people began to run out the doors. Sammy got a sick feeling as she tried to turn around. Toad had managed to hop over to her by  time she got turned around. She didn't notice but he had a worried mixed with surprised look on his face. She looked up to see the Brotherhood standing at one of the main entrances. The feeling of shock left her and now she was just angry. "You lied! I knew this was a trap but I tried to believe you. I should of known you can't change. You'll always be a slim ball!" Sammy yelled at Toad. She seemed almost like she was about to cry. She looked around to see there was still some people in the room hiding. She couldn't use her powers with them around and she couldn't call her friends for help. She looked up at the Brotherhood to think if there was anyways around them. "Aw, what's the matter? You know you don't have a chance without those friends of yours?" Quicksliver laughed. "Come on, why not use your powers? At least try to put up a fight." "What do you want with me? Don't tell me you guys really are that low that you'd pick on a little girl?" Sammy smirked. "Don't pretend to be tough. We all know, your nothing without those powers of yours.  Ha, even with them your still nothing!" Lance sound annoyed by her attitude.  "Like you can talk! You only think your better because of your powers." Sammy lowered her eyes. "Lets see how tough you still think you are when your buried under rubble!" Lance said as his eyes rolled to the back of his head and he slammed his foot into the ground. The building began to shack around Sammy and she was helpless to do anything about it. She fell to the ground, curling into ball, as the clinging fell on top of her. "Ha, that's what you get for thinking you had a chance against us. Maybe next time you should do your trash talking behind Summers and the rest of your loser friends like always." Lance said as he and the others walked out of the ruins of the library, leaving Toad standing there on his own. After being in shock of what just happened for a few moments, he hopped over to the rubble that Sammy was now trapped under. He first tried to free her himself but after a few failed tries, gave up. He then got a idea and hopped out of the building.
From in the rubble Sammy was trying to move around the little space she had. She tried to push some of the rocks out but they were to heavy for her. She wanted to try to blast them away but feared that the people might still be in there and she might end up hurting one of them. She crunched up in the little space she had and started to think of somehow freeing herself. She sat there for a while before realizing that the rocks where starting to move. She could see a bit of light and hear voices as well. She looked up as the rubble was slowly being moved out the way to see Kurt looking in. She popped up and tried to pull herself out. Kurt and Evan where right there, helping pulling her out as well. Once she was standing on top of the rubble with Kurt and Evan, she gave Kurt a big hug. "Oh man am I happy to see you guys!" Kurt ported her down to where to others were and they were all happy to see she was ok. "But I don't get it. How did you guys, know I was here? Or that I needed help?" she looked at her friend confused. "Well…" Scott started. Sammy looked past her friends to see Toad standing there. She lowered her eyes and walked up to him. "What are you still doing here, Toad?" Sammy started. "He's the one that actually told us you were in trouble." Scott informed her. Sammy looked at Scott surprised and then at Toad. "What? But I thought…" she trailed off. "Yeah, we were surprised by it too." Evan said. Sammy looked at Toad, that was blushing in embarrassment. She slowly went from a shocked expression to a more tender one. Without warning she hugged him and kissed him on the check. "Thank you Tolansky." Toad, along with her fellow X-Men, just stood there stunned. After he finally got over what had just happened, Toad hopped off still red and waved goodbye to Sammy. "I can't believe you, like, just hugged him." Kitty broke the silence. Sammy giggled to herself before saying, "I can't ether. I got to take a long bath tonight and burn these clothes now."
